Description
Offbeat brings you this live radio broadcast from WLIR-FM from Billy Cobham and the George Duke Band. Recorded live from the Hofstra Playhouse in NY on March 19, 1976. This high-octane fusion supergroup showcases one of Billy Cobham's most electrifying ventures following his tenure with the Mahavishnu Orchestra. At the time, George Duke was a cornerstone of Frank Zappa's legendary ensemble, while bassist Alphonso Johnson had just made waves with Weather Report, contributing to their seminal albums Tale Spinnin', Mysterious Traveller, and Black Market. Guitarist John Scofield, two years shy of his debut as a bandleader, already hints at his future stardom with his standout performance in this set. The repertoire features selections from contemporary Cobham and Duke albums, with a couple of Zappa tracks adding an extra punch.
