Description
The complete LP + 4 bonus tracks - the original mono version on limited edition 180g virgin vinyl with special liner notes by writer and BBC broadcaster Brain Morton. American pianist and composer Martin Denny (1911-2016) developed a new music genre during the mid-1950s that combined jazz, Hawaiian music, Latin rhythms, bird calls, and exotic instruments such as kotos, gamelans, and Burmese temple bells into the sound that became known as "exotica."
Best known as the "father of Exotica," Denny was responsible for the genre's biggest hit of all time with his version of Les Baxter's 'Quiet Village',included here on this LP.
Exoticawas his debut album. First released in May of 1957, it topped the Billboard's charts in 1959. Originally recorded in mono, the album was entirely rerecorded in stereo in 1958 with the same musicians apart from vibraphonist Julius Wechter - replaced by Arthur Lyman. However, Denny always preferred the original mono version presented here.
