American piano player and composer Martin Denny developed a new musical genre in the mid-'50s by combining lounge jazz, Hawaiian music, Latin rhythms, bird calls, and ethnic instruments from around the world (such as koto, gamelans, Burmese temple bells) into a sound that became known as Exotica.
Best known as the "Father of Exotica," Martin Denny was responsible for the genre's biggest hit of all time with his 1956 single version of Les Baxter's 'Quiet Village', the title of the album presented here, and with the single included as a bonus track.
