Description
Nick Costley-White combines his love and deep understanding for the jazz tradition with a fresh and contemporary approach. His quartet's debut album, 'Detour Ahead', portrays a narrative exploring their musical journey, beginning with performances which draw from the American Songbook tradition and travel through to a more modern aesthetic, inspired by London's exciting jazz scene. Forms, harmonies and rhythms are superimposed and abstracted but still retain their essential function, whilst the improvisations express the excitement and beauty of these frameworks.Nick is one of the UK's most in demand jazz guitarists and can be seen performing across the UK and internationally alongside some of the country's finest improvisers, including Martin Speake, Stan Sulzmann, Steve Fishwick, Pete Hurt and Jeff Williams. He was awarded the Yamaha Scholarship for Outstanding Musicians.Nick is joined by the absolute best of his contemporaries in London Jazz. Dave Hamblett (drums) can be seen playing across the UK and internationally with artists such as Ivo Neame, George Garzone, Elchin Shirinov and he is a visiting drum professor at Leeds College of Music. Pianist Matt Robinson and bassist Conor Chaplin can also be seen playing with musicians such as Jesse Van Ruler, Seamus Blake and Norma Winstone, to name just a few.
