Description
With the double CD 'She Composed - Music by Women Composers', an artistically compelling and culturally significant project comes to life--one that combines musical quality and a musical journey of discovery. The album presents piano works by women composers from several centuries and diverse cultural backgrounds, thoughtfully arranged in ascending levels of difficulty: from short, characterful miniatures to large-scale works of considerable technical and expressive demands. The repertoire spans a wide historical and stylistic spectrum. It ranges from Baroque dance movements by Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre and Elisabetta de Gambarini, through Romantic piano literature by Emilie Mayer, Clara Schumann, Fanny Hensel, Louise Farrenc, and Agathe Backer Grondahl, to important voices of the 20th and 21st centuries such as Lili Boulanger, Mel Bonis, Karen Tanaka, Alicia Terzian, Dorothea Hofmann, and Philippine Schick. Latin American composers--including Florence Price, Teresa Carreno, Maria Matilde Alea, Beatriz Lockhart, and Lia Cimaglia Espinosa--are prominently featured, enriching the programme with folkloric, rhythmic, and urban influences. The recordings feature an international group of distinguished pianists, among them Yami CruzMontero, Ivan Rolon, Serena Chillemi, Johanna Henschel, Marie Sophie Hauzel, Debora Halasz, Dmitry Mayboroda, and Markus Bellheim. Their individual artistic voices lend colour and character to the programme, while maintaining a clear focus on stylistic awareness, clarity, and musical communication.
