Description
Isaac Makhdoomi, Swiss recorder player with an Indian background, presents here together with Sebastian Bausch at the harpsichord a veritable discovery with the sonatas of Domenico Maria Dreyer (ca. 1680 - ca.1740).
From the oevre of this little-known composer, only two recorder sonatas and six oboe sonatas composed around 1725 have survived the test of time, whereby the latter are excellently suited for adaptation on the alto or soprano recorder - a common Baroque practice that Makhdoomi has followed for his recording.
The sonatas are characterized by great musical grace and are stylistically close to the Venetian High Baroque.
