Performed at Del Mar Fairgrounds, CA on 26th October 1993, for broadcast on syndicated radio, Smashing Pumpkins had just released their break through album Siamese Dream. At the time the album was released Corgan had been visiting a therapist after suffering anervous breakdown, consequently his lyrics became more explicit about his troubled past and insecurities. He had worked overtime, practically living in the studio for the recording ofSiamese Dream--working 16-hour days for weeks at a time to achieve the sound he wanted. Despite the recording sessions being fraught with difficulties and tensions,the albumdebuted at number ten on theBillboard200. This live performance features 12 of the 17 tracks from the album which would eventually sell six million copies worldwide
Siamese Dream has since become one of the band's most renowned works, inspiring an entire generation andoffering a glimpse into their future work Melon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. To quote Billy Corgan "The Smashing Pumpkins was never meant to be a small band. It was going to either be a big band, or a no band."
