Description
Fairytale’s Autumn’s Crown album spirits listeners away into a world of fantasy. The journey sets out on a road to very different places with one destination in common: fairy tales, magic and myths. In classical folk tradition, the ballads revolve around a loved one far away (Donegal), visit the secret lady of the lake (Waterfall), describe the whispering of elves in the forests (Voice of an Elf), celebrate the joy of living in the big outdoors (Living in the Woods) and express a lively harvest festival in the country through music (Mushroom Foray). Fairytale sings about the transient nature of everything (As Old as Time) as well as the timeless journey into the clear light of the moon (Moonway), mourns lost love in the land beyond all bridges (After the Bridge) and shows the shadowy side of magic with a frisson of darkness (Dark Elves). The purely instrumental Mando Dance combines folk with Caribbean rhythms in an astonishing way, the two German songs pay tribute to the black romanticism of the midnight hour (Wassergeister) and envelop the bleakness of death in an aria that wouldn’t seem out of place in an opera (Am Weiher).
In one way or another, each song transcends the boundaries between what’s real and the realm of dream and magic. Listeners are pulled into a magical but real world of the type enticingly promised by the album’s title song Autumn’s Crown at the beginning.
This is the second time that the band’s inviting listeners to embark on a journey like this and the concept’s similar to the refreshing debut album Forest of Summer (2015). But autumn, the season of maturity, has arrived and Autumn’s Crown offers a plethora of more spirited and multifaceted but more sombre and more golden colours in equal measure. The band’s still young but they’re first-class musicians to the core. A whole host of facets combines to produce a cornucopia of fantasy, loyal to folk roots, but full of diverse compositions, stirring and powerful voices, a broad musical range and a delight in paying attention to instrumental details.
This album really does lead us into the realm of dreams and magic enchanted and Fairytale is an excellent guide.
Fairytale "Autumn's Crown" will be released on August 24th 2018 as CD in digipack with gold lettering and as digital download. -
