Songs from Beyond is an elegant set of acoustic guitar arrangements of jazz standards by Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, and others, made by John W. Duarte, a British composer who was closely connected to some of the most famous guitarists of the 20th century in both the jazz and classical worlds. Working closely with Duarte's son, Christopher Duarte, who is engaged in a larger project of cataloguing and publishing his father's work, guitarist Francisco Correa has made a thoughtful selection of these previously unknown arrangements and plays them with great sensitivity and flair. In addition to the solo pieces, four tracks feature duos with guitarist Daniela Rossi, whose expressive playing brings a rich, intimate dialogue to the album. Colombian guitarist Francisco Correa, acclaimed for his "eloquent" and "expressive" playing by Gramophone and Soundboard Magazine, enchants audiences with his virtuosic performances. A versatile musician, equally at home with Western classical and Latin American repertoire, he is highly sought after across the UK, Europe, and South America. His previous solo releases Musica de la Tierrita, Warmikuna and Winterbourne received unanimous critical acclaim. A fervent champion of new music, he works closely with distinguished composers, and has premiered and recorded more than 50 new guitar works to date.
