Description
The British guitarist John Etheridge rightly enjoys a glowing reputation throughout the jazz world and has been described by Pat Metheny as, "one of the best guitarists in the world". He has played with a vast range of musicians, from Stephane Grappelli to the legendary jazz-fusion group, Soft Machine. Equally at home on acoustic and electric guitar and his willingness to engage with so many styles is matched by his ability to excel in any of them.
Every year, for quite a while he's headed up the M1 for a series of club dates in Yorkshire with bassist Ben Crosland and drummer Dave Tyas. This is the first time they have recorded together and they have tried to replicate the feel of a typical gig, as they play extended tunes 'live' in the studio. The material includes some compositions of Etheridge that were conceived as live vehicles and have not been previously recorded, as well as a new composition by Ben. Other tunes include classic songs from outside the normal jazz repertoire. Etheridge says that "the results are an honest and successful representation of the work we have as a trio over the years."
