Blind Lemon Jefferson is one of the most important figures in country-blues history. With his mixture of blues and spirituals delivered in a thin, piercing voice, he had an undeniable impact on American popular music. Jefferson was to Texas blues what Charley Patton was to Mississippi blues. His performances had a direct influence on such legendary Texas musicians as Lead Belly, T-Bone Walker, and Lightnin' Hopkins. Jefferson made many recordings during his brief life. This 2-CD set includes his finest tunes, consisting of 50 newly restored solo recordings, waxed by the Paramount label between 1925 and 1929, and originally released as 10" 78-rpm discs. All of these poignant tracks would form the basis of Jefferson's enduring legacy and secure his role as one of the legends of that classic era. This is acoustic country-blues of the highest order, full of emotion and heartfelt commitment. -
