Description
A masterful jazz interpretation of the movie soundtrack to 'In The Mood For Love', directed by Wong Kar Wai.
Following their 2022 release "Le Plus Longtemps Possible", which earned them a "Coup de Coeur" from the Academie Charles Cros, and "French Group of the Year" awards from Jazz News and Jazz Magazine, the four members of Flash Pig have chosen a tale of love and imagination as the main theme of their new album, their inspirational vehicle being by the movie soundtrack of director Wong Kar Wai's masterpiece, In the Mood for Love.
The soundtrack features several Nat King Cole boleros, a few traditional Chinese songs and of course the lovers' main theme, the variations of which are a perfect vehicle for Flash Pig's 'chutzpah'. As is the case for Wong Kar Wai, the film's formal constraints allow the band to express emotion in a discreet and nuanced way.
This fiery, masterful album, the fifth in the quartet's fifteen-year history, shows us musicians and human beings reaching maturity together. Within the jazz idiom, few can express complex, nuanced emotions the way they do. Their dialogue with cinema opens enticing avenues for the listener's imagination, while this gem of a band takes another step forward.
Flash Pig is a 15 year old band based in Paris, blending raw improvisation, arranged pop tunes, and introspective originals. They share a limitless love for the free jazz scene, from Keith Jarrett to Ornette Coleman and Paul Motian. Their fifth album, 'The Mood for Love' is a moving testament to what four top tier musicians can do, when they put togetherness and artistic integrity first.
