With her debut album, London-based pianist Antonina Suhanova turns to one of the defining landmarks of twentieth-century piano literature: Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Sonatas Nos. 6, 7 and 8. Composed between 1939 and 1944, these three works are commonly known as the "War Sonatas"--not because they constitute programme music about war, but because they embody the tensions of an era marked by political oppression, existential uncertainty and the devastation of the Second World War. Together, they represent the summit of Prokofiev's piano writing and rank among the most demanding works in the repertoire, both technically and interpretatively. The album was recorded in the renowned Wyastone Concert Hall in Wales under the production of Andrew Keener, whose name has long been synonymous with audiophile reference recordings. The hall's exceptional acoustics and the meticulous production capture the extraordinary richness of Prokofiev's piano writing with outstanding transparency and depth. The winner of many awards, Latvian pianist Antonina Suhanova has performed on international stages since 2000 having studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is a regular performer at various UK venues.
