Description
Venice has been a magnet for travellers from all over the world for centuries. In addition to the palazzi built on piles, the squares and churches and the impressive art history, the lagoon city is also famous for its living landmarks: the singing "gondoliers" on the many water channels.
Goethe, Rousseau and Mozart were also impressed by the songs of the boatmen.
"This is both technically dazzling and musically involving: a collection of canzoni da battello (literally "songs sung upon a boat") from 17th century Venice, wonderfully sung by baritone Holger Falk and deliciously accompanied by period instrument combo Nuovo Aspetto."
"Falk is in gorgeous voice.......Already one of my discs of the year." The Arts Desk
On his debut album for PROSPERO CLASSICAL, baritone Holger Falk slips into the Venetian Gondola role and takes the audience on a journey through centuries of song repertoire.
Also on board of his concert gondola, the renowned early music ensemble Nuovo Aspetto and the electro duo Merzouga, which provides fascinating sound impressions (from the Venice of our day) from important places and institutions in the lagoon city.
With "Il Gondoliere Veneziano" baritone Holger Falk presents a fascinating musical voyage through the historic and contemporary Venice. Music by many anonymous composers, but also by André Campra, Johann Simon Mayr, Giuseppe Tartini or Antonio Vivaldi.
