Composer and clarinettist Yom has been exploring the most heterogeneous musical genres for nearly 20 years. He made his name by revisiting traditional Jewish music, but his many projects have taken him into the worlds of rock, electronic music, classical and contemporary music. With Cosmogonia, Yom delivers a high-wire act: an entire album based on circular breathing, recorded in one take, without any overdubs, the fruit of a 15 year technical obsession. Here, Yom tackles the impossible for a wind instrument: polyphony. Thanks to the technique of continuous breathing, he generates uninterrupted streams of notes. The speed of execution is such that the arpeggios overlap to create phantom "chords." This is not a melody, it's a wall of sound, a mental trance akin to organic techno, a surprising encounter between jazz and ambient.
