Inspired by the late, great Quincy Jones, Rocinha opens the album, Q Theory - This represents the initial
opening movement and catalyst in the inception of "Rara Jazz." As a fearless fusion of jazz, Caribbean,
Brazilian, African, and American sounds, the track draws profound inspiration from the spirit of Brazil's
iconic favela, Rocinha, the harmonic depth of John Coltrane, and the improvisational genius of Herbie
Hancock.
The composition features a rich instrumental tapestry, with Wyclef Jean on guitars, Fender Rhodes, bass,
synthesizers, and drum programming. Complementing this vision are Robert Glasper on piano, Patrick
Pelissier on keyboards and Fender Rhodes, Emmanuel Laine on drums, Emanuel Najee on bass, and
Godwin Louis on saxophone, with vocal textures provided by Kayla Carpenter, Kyle Carpenter, and
Lynette Rhett.
