Description
Singer/writer/producer/arranger/bandleader Wayne Shanklin is chiefly remembered for writing songs like 'Jezebel', 'Chanson D'Amour', 'Primrose Lane' and 'The Big Hurt', million sellers for Frankie Laine, Art & Dotty Todd, Jerry Wallace and Miss Toni Fisher, respectively. Although he was a considerably more prolific (and successful) songwriter than recording artist, Shanklin cut a highly-regarded LP, "The Modern Minstrel", plus a couple of 45s, all of which appear on this special compilation.
Also included are fifteen bonus tracks of other artists performing his songs, Eartha Kitt, Johnnie Ray, The Chordettes, The Whips, Johnny Krag, Heinie Beau, Allen Dare, as well as the aforementioned Laine, Todd, Wallace and Fisher.
The hits apart, this is a seriously rare and collectable body of work.
Shanklin's own recordings have never previously appeared on CD, while a handful of the bonus tracks are also making their digital debuts.
