Description
In the beginning, the term "Bossa Nova", simply referred to a new way of playing and singing samba, incorporating some elements from jazz music and with a pronounced softness, both in terms of musical and poetic presentation.
Many contemporary critics praised the innovative bossa nova style and hailed it as the single most important event in Brazilian music history.
On this CD set we have included songs by some of these pioneers, such as: "Voce E Eu" and "Ciume" by Carlos Lyra, "Lamento Non Morro" and "Samba Triste" by Lucio Alves.
Naturally no bossa nova CD should be without the master, João Gilberto and we have showcased among his many tunes, "Discussao", "Doralice", "Trevo De 4 Folhas" and the beautiful "Chega de Saudade" which is arguably the first bossa nova song ever recorded.
The bossa nova movement emerged at a time of profound change and modernisation in Brazilian society, bringing with it a deep sense of optimism. People started to have faith and confidence in their own future and this music really is the perfect soundtrack for those times, and after listening to these selections who can blame them.
