Description
This twenty-one track collection gathers together all of Troy Shondell's recordings from his days on the Mercury, Liberty and Everest labels as well as those that appeared on several smaller independent labels in America. Includes detailed notes tracing his recording career between 1957 and 1962.
Troy Shondell made his first records between 1957 and 1960 under his real name Gary Shelton. In 1961 he finally got his breakthrough hit, when under the name Troy Shondell he released the million selling "This Time", a Top 10 hit in America and a Top 30 hit in Britain and now looked on as a classic recording of this Chips Moman song.
Although a one hit wonder in Britain, he had two further records make Billboard's Hot 100. This Time was self-produced, but subsequent releases were produced by legendary names, Snuff Garrett and Phil Spector.
Many of the songs he recorded were written by him, but he also recorded songs by Jackie De Shannon and Sharon Sheeley, Ray Charles and Lloyd Price in a catalogue of music that ranges in style from rock 'n' roll, to pop and country.
