Description
A product of the recent renaissance in Scottish folk music, Treacherous Orchestra are a new signing to Navigator Records and will release their debut album, 'Origins', in late February. Already known to many in the folk scene via their occasional festival appearances, they are in many ways the ultimate twelve 8208;piece, pan 8208;Scottish outfit (with two members from Ireland) and an aggregation that came together in the musical melting pot that is Glasgow, a location where the individual musicians first developed a strong affinity for each other's playing.
"The name Treacherous Orchestra sums up a reflection of attitude," says the
band's Éamonn Coyne. "It strongly reflects our character and the music we play, and
sparks fly every time this specific crowd of instrumentalists get together." This musical empathy, and their passion for high 8208;energy, innovative and evolving styles of playing, comes to fruition in the exuberant sounds produced on their album.
Each member of the band brings a strong individual sound and instrumental style to this powerful blending of the old with the new. Many are also gifted composers, producers and engineers in their own right and it is these cumulative talents that set the band apart in terms of forging their own unique interpretation of Scottish music. 'Origins' was recorded in several studios throughout Scotland (in the Highlands, Glasgow and Lanarkshire), produced jointly by three members of the band and features 90% self 8208;penned material that has evolved organically with the growth of the band.
The release of 'Origins' will be preceded by live appearances at Celtic Connections in Glasgow in late January and at the Big Whistle Festival in Bury on 18th February, while Mary Ann Kennedy will preview material from the album exclusively on her BBC Radio 3 show 'World On 3' on 30th December.
