  • Description

Originally released on August 26, 2016, Total Depravity is the gripping fifth studio album by the alt-rock band The Veils. Led by the theatrical, fire-and-brimstone songwriting of frontman Finn Andrews, the record plunges deep into a dark, richly cinematic world of religious imagery and moral decay. While the band was already known for its sweeping, "Southern Gothic" indie-noir sound, Total Depravity introduced a sharp, industrial edge. This sonic shift was driven by a brilliant, unexpected collaboration with producer El-P, one half of the powerhouse hip-hop duo Run the Jewels, who loved the band's live energy. Alongside longtime producer Adam Greenspan, El-P injected the tracks with aggressive, distorted synthetic beats and lo-fi textures.
Upon its release, Total Depravity received critical acclaim from major music publications including MOJO, NME, and UNCUT. Tracks from the record were also synced across several major projects. "Axolotl" was featured in David Lynch's Twin Peaks: The Return and recently in Marvel's Spider-Noir series. "Low Lays the Devil" was synced in Lucifer and the series Day of the Jackal starring Eddie Redmayne.

Physical reissue available December 4 on CD, black vinyl, and exclusive gold coloured vinyl.
