Description
The texts of female poets from Afghanistan written in the libretto of the opera 'Unknown, I Live with You' were created during the period of the strongest political domination of the Taliban regime. The authors that are known to us as Roya, Meena Z., Fattemah AH, and Freshta have created their poems as part of underground, illegal creative writing courses, as participants in the New York Afghan Women’s Writing Project, supported by activists from local organisations.
Their texts, juxtaposed with the icon of the Western “high culture, which opera undoubtedly is, emphasise the continuum of uncertainty of female condition, proper to social orders based on the patriarchal religious message.
