Description
The midwestern band of Wilfred Theodore Weymes played in a style all of its own; it did not follow the (by the early 1920s) well-trodden path of its contemporaries, but employed arrangers who were well able to write in the up-and-comingimprovisatory "hot" style. Despite the Victor Recording Company's official frowning on anything regarded as not commercial, a test by the band was passed in 1923 and their first record, "Somebody Stole My Gal", became the first of the four million-sellers that Ted Weems, as he called himself for professional purposes, was to enjoy in a 40 year career. Indeed, in 1990, 30 years after his death, a 'Ted Weems Orchestra' was still playing around the States. The 50 sides included on this 2CD set illustrate the band's remarkable power and all tracks have been audio restored by Harry Coster. -
