  • Description

This album presents music for violin and piano by Bacewicz, Prokofiev and Part; a musical ensemble which has a long-standing tradition built over the centuries. On the album, we find music from the heart of the 20th century, composed by artists associated with Cen¬tral and Eastern Europe.

The first Sonata for violin and piano by Grazyna Bacewicz was written in 1949, shortly after the war. The war's shadow can still be observed in the composition, kept in the neoclassical style. Despite a perfect discipline, typical of Bacewicz, there are also sections brim¬ming with emotions, neatly blended into an impeccable form.

A similar impression of even greater emotionality and tragedy is evoked by the Sonata No. 1 in F Minor, Op. 80 by Sergei Prokofiev, written in 1936–1946, a work full of contrasts, with fragments of a heroic nature, yet perfectly balanced in terms of form.

The last of the pieces presented on the album is Fratres for violin and piano by Arvo Part from 1977. The composer has created many versions of this piece, yet the 'classic' combination of violin and keys seems to be particularly interesting here in com¬parison with its transparent structure and the tone colours used.

Sulamita Slubowska is a graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in the class of Prof. Szymon Krze¬szowiec, in which she has been working as an assistant professor since 2020.
