  • Description

John Grimaldi, known as Studebaker John, was born in Chicago in 1952 - With over fifty years in the music scene, he's a true veteran of Chicago blues - Instead of sticking to the usual covers, John writes his own songs, blending raw power with skillful technique. - His authenticity, dedication, and originality have earned him praise worldwide.

Growing up in an Italian-American neighborhood, John was influenced by his father and picked up the harmonica at just seven years old. He spent a lot of time on the iconic Maxwell Street, where the blues he heard laid the groundwork for his artistic identity. A pivotal moment came when he saw Hound Dog Taylor & The Houserockers perform. Captivated by the slide guitar and the energy of the music, John committed himself to slide guitar and Chicago blues.

In the 1970s, he formed his band, Studebaker John & The Hawks, and released his first album, 'Straight No Chaser', in 1978. In the early 1990s, he gained recognition in Europe with albums like 'Born To Win' and 'Nothin' But Fun', and he has remained a fixture on the international stage ever since. With 21 albums under his belt, his live shows are known for their high energy and connection with the audience. John delivers the blues as he knows it: raw and genuine. His performances in clubs and festivals worldwide affirm his reputation as a skilled artist.

John's music has also been featured in commercials and films. Reviews consistently highlight him as an artist who both respects and innovates the classic Chicago blues tradition, including his work with the Maxwell Street Kings and albums on respected labels like Delmark Records. He often tackles social issues in his songs, keeping his music relevant even after all these years.
