Two CDs for the price of one. In this specially priced double, renowned avant-garde alto saxman Sonny Simmons delivers his best playing ever. Recorded at the Club La Ville, Paris in the mid 1990s with Jacques Avenel (bass) and George Brown (drums), the 13 tracks are a mix of original Simmons compositions and standards. Simmons couples strong rhythmic propulsion to his astonishing melodic inventiveness to make music that is strikingly original and heartfelt. He plays both alto sax and English horn, showcasing his all-round excellence as a reedman.
