Description
The second album from the highly successful Cuarteto SolTango, featuring the Dutch Cellist Karel Bredenhorst, comprises arrangements by Tango composers in the style of famous band leaders from the Golden Age: Anibal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese, Horacio Salgan and Lucio Demare.
The title of this album and its opening number is, aptly, Sin Palabras ("without words"). This album aims to transport the listener straight into the atmosphere of a traditional milonga (a musical evening with a special type of dance), and it is structured in tandas, all separated by cortinas. Each tango tanda is in the style of a famous band leader from the Golden Age.
Today tango DJs play cortinas from a variety of different genres ranging from pop to jazz to classical music. In between each tanda, the members of Cuarteto SolTango present short solo or duo pieces that reflect their background as diverse and creative musicians. Collectively they bring their personal stories together to explore the rich heritage of tango.
Cuarteto SolTango's unique ensemble of violin, cello, bandoneon and piano brings the music of the Golden Age of Tango to life by combining traditional orchestral sound with the true spirit of chamber music. Since it was founded in 2008, the quartet has regularly been invited to perform the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the Heidelberg Spring, Grachtenfestival Amsterdam and the Bayerischer Rundfunk studio concerts.
The ensemble performs artful instrumentations by founder Martin Klett, who has made a name for himself as a versatile, international prize-winning pianist. Dutch cellist Karel Bredenhorst, also a founding member, brings his experience as a versatile chamber musician and from experimental crossover projects. Violinist Thomas Reif was appointed concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra at the age of 26 and has been awarded various international prizes. Norwegian Andreas Rokseth, on the bandoneon, graduated as the best bandoneonist in the history of the Codarts University in Rotterdam. He has thrilled argentine audiences at the Buenos Aires Festival y Mundial.
SolTango has wowed audiences live on stage at Tango shows and international tango festivals in Dusseldorf, Ghent, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Oldenburg, Leipzig and more. They have performed with world-renowned dance couples from Europe and Buenos Aires.
