  • Description

Another CD documenting the concerts of the Musica Sacromontana festival held every year in the Basilica on the Holy Mountain near Gostyn. The Festival serves the continuation of the intentions of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri, who wanted to evangelize through the broadly understood propagation of culture. It is thanks to their efforts that in the 17th century a great ensemble was established there, and the greatest composers, including Giovanni Palestrina, came to Gostyn. Many of them wrote works commissioned by the Congregation; the fathers also filled the library with copies of the works of the greatest masters.

There were also outstanding artists among Poles, including Jozef Zeidler, one of the most outstanding representatives of Classicism in Polish music, who was associated with the monastery. His works have been presented in all editions of the festival. In 2022,a performance of Zeidler's Litany to John Nepomucene and Rorate cael took place.

In addition to liturgical music, non-sacred works could also be heard on the Holy Mountain (in the temple itself or in front of its facade). Those were - as the chronicler writes - "symphonies, adagios or other fine and appropriate arts". That type of repertoire is represented by the Sinfonia in C by Czech composer Vaclav Pichl(1741-1805), the score of which has survived in the collections of the Holy Mountain Library.

    Performers on this recording:

Anna Mikolajczyk-Niewiedzial (soprano), Ewa Marciniec (alto), Tomasz Krzysica (tenor), Wojciech Gierlach (bass), Silesian Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Silesia, Katowice City Singers' Ensemble, Michal Klauza (conductor) Anna Szostak (choirmaster)
