Description
This compilation features Scatman Crothers' collectable 1956 LP 'Rock 'n' Roll with Scat Man', plus seventeen 'bonus tracks'. This is the first in-depth overview of Crothers' singing career and many of these sides have never previously appeared on CD.
Although he is chiefly remembered as an actor and voice-over specialist, Scatman Crothers also enjoyed a parallel career in music, which actually predated his acting career by a couple of decades.
An experienced singer/drummer/guitarist, he'd been working since the early 1930s and was famously one of the first vocalists to improvise nonsense syllables to jazz tunes, hence the nickname "Scat Man".
Included among the bonus sides are 'Dead Man's Blues' and 'Riff's Blues' (both recorded with Riff Charles), '(I Want To) Rock 'n' Roll' (with Wild Bill Moore), 'Beale Street On A Saturday Night' (with Calvin Boze) and 'Papa (I Don't Treat That Little Girl Mean)'.
However, the standout among these bonus sides is the controversial, collectable "The Death of Emmett Till (parts 1 & 2)", which Crothers released under the pseudonym The Ramparts, and has never previously appeared on CD.
