Description
Ralph Stanley established himself long ago as America's foremost singer of traditional mountain music. His instantly recognizable voice has earned him Grammys, a Grand Ole Opry membership, an honorary doctorate degree, a place in the bluegrass hall of fame, and a very good living.
Ralph has, for the most part, set aside the banjo in his live performances these last several years but he still usualy picks it up for at least one rollicking, crowd-pleasing 'clawhammer' number. It is fun to watch him return to the old-time mountain style of playing that he learned from his mother when he was a barefoot 11 year old. The 18 tunes on this collection represent nearly 30 years of recording for Dr Stanley. Most of the clawhammer songs he's recorded for Rebel are here, including nine previously unreleased tracks.
Tracks: Rocky Island / Shout Little Lulie / Battle Ax / Pretty Girls, City Lights / Cripple Creek / I've Got A Mule To Ride / Old McDonald; Cindy / Shady Grove / John Henry / Little Birdie / Cuttin' The Cornbread / Bound To Ride / Married Life Blues / Black-Eyed Susie / Kentucky Shine / True Blue Bill / Dixieland (My Old Home Town) / Old Time Pickin'.
