Description
When it comes to talking about UK jazz saxophonists, many insiders feel that Phil Bancroft sits in the same elite group as some of his more well-known contemporaries such as Tommy Smith, Andy Shepherd and Courtney Pine.
Phil has been a late developer but has become a major contributor to the scottish jazz scene, as a part of Kevin McKenzie's Vital Signs band as well as Trio AAB and his brother Tom's quartet. The quality of his sidemen on this CD is testament to the esteem he his held in by fellow musicians.
Drawn from the cream of the Norwegian and Swedish scenes, this rhythm section creates precisely the backdrop for Phil's explorations to flourish with his melodic side balanced perfectly with the more avant garde aspect of his musical personality
