  • Description

Pianist Patricia Montero performs Schubert's unfinished Piano Sonata D 571 along with two extraordinary collections of short pieces: 6 Moments Musicaux and 3 Klavierstucke.

By combining one sonata and two collections of short pieces for piano, this recording honours two different and complementary aspects of Schubert's musical production for piano.
Schubert gave prominence to minor genres, such as short pieces for piano (Impromptus, Moments musicaux and Klavierstücke). The lyrical character of these short pieces is a feature of Schubert's work and is associated, of course, with his passion for lied.

The number of sonatas composed by Schubert has been very difficult to determine because many of them were unfortunately unfinished. This is the case of the Sonata in F-sharp minor D. 571, composed in 1817 and published long after the composer's death, which comprises of only one, unfinished movement, but which is nevertheless, an extremely valuable piece.

Patricia Montero's academic background includes 4 'Diplomes de Premier Prix', 2 'Diplomes Superieurs' and the Degree granted by the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, 1968-1971.
Her repertoire ranges from Bach to 20th Century composers, with the complete piano Sonatas by Schubert as its principal axis. It also includes Mexican music and a large catalogue of chamber music works. She has given concerts and recitals in Mexico, Belgium, Spain, France, Holland, Italy, Austria, the United States of America (Carnagie Hall, 1973), Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
She has taught at the 'National Conservatory of Music' of Mexico D.F., at the Conservatories of Music of Namur, Mons and Brussels (Belgium) and at the 'Academy of Music of Woluwe Saint Lambert', also in Brussels.
For the last 34 years, she has participated as 'Guest Master' and concert pianist in the 'Jornadas Musicales Eduardo del Pueyo', a music event held every summer in Granada, Spain.
In July 2017, she was invited by the University of Costa Rica to participate as 'Guest Master' and concert pianist in the 'Campamento de Piano de Palmares', a musical summer workshop held every two years in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
She has been member of the Jury in the following piano competitions: the 'Pilar Bayona Piano Competition' (Saragossa, Spain) in 1983, the 'Pamassos Piano Competition' (Monterrey, Mexico) in 2003, the 'Pianissima Piano Competition' (Marcq-en-Baroeulen, France) 2015, and the 'Concours jeunes talents' (Brantôme, France) 2016-2017. Since 2001, Patricia Montero works as a piano professor at the Eduardo del Pueyo Musical Center in Brussels, Belgium.
