Description
The group One Way were originally called The Soul Partners, later Al Hudson and the Partners and when they were signed to MCA they became One Way feat. Al Hudson, before simply One Way. They were signed to MCA between 1980 and 1988 and scored many hits, including five top ten R&B hits. Their songs were up tempo and danceable but they also recorded credible ballads and love songs and they had a great female vocalist in Alicia Myers. The album Who’s Foolin’ Who includes the band's biggest hit, "Cutie Pie", which peaked at #61 on the Billboard Hot 100, #29 on the dance charts and #4 on the R&B charts. The album's title track, "Who's Foolin' Who" was also successfully released as a single, and in the 90s was covered by the Eurodance band Double You. The album itself peaked at #51 on the Billboard 200 and #8 on the R&B charts. Aside from 1984's #1 R&B album, Lady, this record is the highest charting of their eight-year run. When lead singer Alicia Myers left the band to start up a solo career she released an album entitled Fooled You this Time. It is unclear which album (Myers' or this one) was recorded first, but evidently, the similarity in album titles was intentional. Specifically, if her album was released first, then One Way's album title Who's Foolin' Who can be seen as a sort of "response" to hers, or vice versa. Ironically, it turns out that most of the songs on Myers' album were written by One Way band members Al Hudson and Kevin McCord.
