Pianist Oliver Jones is one of Canada’s finest musicians, his career intertwining with the proud history of jazz that’s flourished in his native city (Montreal) and beyond. Jones’ professional achievements include the Order of Canada; the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, for lifetime artistic achievement; and several Juno and Félix awards. He’s recorded with such international luminaries as Oscar Peterson, Clark Terry, Ray Brown, Ed Thigpen, Herb Ellis & Red Mitchell.
This new trio recording, with bassist Eric Lagacé and drummer Jim Doxas, is one of his finest to date, in a career filled with superlative achievements. It features a perfect blend of originals and standards, paced to perfection, alternating perfectly balanced gorgeous ballads with rip-roaring workouts as only Oliver Jones and his energetic trio can perform them.
