Description
Recorded in June 1977, this was Mick Pyne's first solo album and reissued here for the first time on CD. A programme of solo piano and cornet/piano duos, it's an album featuring popular standards performed in a way that can be simply described as 'sweet melancholy'. A great record deservedly reissued!
Mick Pyne was one of the UK's most formidable pianists. His playing with Tubby Hayes between 1966 and 1973 is probably his most highly regarded (he can be heard on the Tubby Hayes reissues from Universal), but he was also a commanding figure with Humphrey Lyttelton between 1973 and 1985. He later worked with Georgie Fame, and Hefty Jazz lead by Keith Smith and Charlie Watts. Mick Pyne died in 1995 at the young age of 54.
Personnel: Mick Pyne (solo piano & piano/cornet duets)
