The ninth album in the Witold Lutoslawski. Opera omnia series presents works inspired by the world of children's imagination, folklore, and music education. The programme combines songs set to texts by classic authors of Polish children's literature with piano miniatures, including Folk Melodies, Bucolics, Three Pieces for the Young, and the youthful Two Etudes. Composed mainly in the 1950s, these works reveal a lesser-known side of Lutoslawski: a composer drawing on folk traditions while at the same time consistently developing his own distinctive musical language. Although these are works on a modest scale, they already contain many elements characteristic of the composer's later masterpieces: refined harmony, masterful formal construction, a fondness for polyphony, and a subtle sense of colour. The album also continues the thematic thread explored in the seventh volume of the series, offering a perspective on Lutoslawski's oeuvre through some of his most intimate and deeply personal artistic statements.
