Description
Marconi Union return with Multiforms: Ambient Transmissions Vol.3, the latest chapter in their long-running Ambient Transmissions series, released on Just Music. It will be accompanied by a full-length A/V visualiser premiering on the day of release, further extending the project's immersive world.
A group long regarded as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary ambient and electronic music, the Mancunian outfit have spent over two decades refining a sound that resists easy definition. From their 2003 debut Under Wires and Searchlights through to a string of critically acclaimed releases, their work has continually balanced texture, emotion and spatial
depth. As Uncut succinctly put it: "Few others offer mellow journeys into night as effectively as Marconi Union."
Multiforms: Ambient Transmissions Vol.3 builds on the foundations of 2011's Beautifully Falling Apart (Vol.1) and 2012's Weightless (Vol.2). The latter of which introduced their most widely recognised work 'Weightless'. Conceived as a complete listening experience, Multiforms: Ambient Transmissions Vol.3 unfolds as a single, continuous piece, each movement folding seamlessly into the next. There are no standout tracks by design; instead, the album invites full immersion, encouraging the listener to drift through shifting atmospheres, serene soundscapes and quietly evolving emotional states. It is both expansive and intimate, designed for deep listening.
Opening with Multiform I, the record eases into focus with a measured build, gradually rising toward an expansive, quietly ecstatic crescendo. Across the album, Marconi Union's beatless, approach is refined further, using subtle shifts in tone and harmony to create a sense of floating in forward motion. At its midpoint, Multiform IV introduces a near-subliminal pulse beneath shimmering melodic layers, while blissful arpeggios drift in and out of the foreground. The closing piece, Multiform VI, provides a soft and reflective landing, built around resonant piano chords and a gentle sense of melancholy, bringing the album to a calm and emotionally resonant conclusion.
