  • Description

In Bach's time it was common practice to arrange works of other composers for different instruments. Also the great J.S. Bach transcribed solo concertos (for instance violin concertos, wind concertos) of such famous composers like Vivaldi and Marcello for organ solo. Although Bach never visited Italy he became acquainted with the works of the great Italian Baroque masters and he was profoundly inspired by them, incorporating certain elements, such as the Concerto form. But Bach being Bach, he added his own counterpoint and embellishments to these works which make his transcriptions very much his own. Manuel Tomadin has compiled a beautiful program of Italian concertos by Vivaldi and Torelli in Bach's transcription, a concerto by Graun and original works by Bach in which the Italian influence is most noticeable, such as the famous Toccata, Adagio & Fuga BWV 564 and the Prelude & Fugue BWV 543. Played on one of the most famous historic organs of The Netherlands, the 1733 Hinsz organ in the Petrus Church in Leens, the specifications of which are included in the booklet. Manuel Tomadin is one of the foremost Italian organists of today, a scholar and passionate musician, with an impressive discography to his name: Husumer Organ Book, Alberti and Erbach Complete Keyboard Works, Van Noordt, Krebs, Lübeck, Hassler, Martini and other North German organ masters.
