  • Description

Award winning artist Kiran Ahluwalia collaborates with legendary Malian desert blues band Tinariwen and famed UK producer Justin Adams on her new album- 'aam zameen: common ground'.
"She has a voice destined to enchant more than one generation". fRoots
"Ahluwalia's voice is caressing and seductive and her arrangements are magnificant". Songlines
Kiran Ahluwalia's new album is an inspiring step forward in the evolution of an artist who, while firmly rooted in Indian music, is continually embracing sounds and influences from around the world. Kiran- a multi award winning artist including a JUNO and a Songlines/WOMAD Award, has embraced her love of Saharan desert blues and collaborated with two Tuareg groups, the legendary Tinariwen and the up-and-coming group of fellow tribesmen, Terakaft. Having spent almost three years incubating and developing the concept, the tipping point came when Ahluwalia met famed Robert Plant and Tinariwen producer, Justin Adams while on tour in Europe in 2009. Adams was immediately interested in the project and soon Kiran and Tinariwen's leader Ibrahim Ag Alhabib were making plans for the first session.
The album also features award-winning Ghanian ritti player, Juldeh Camara and cutting-edge New York jazz guitarist. Rez Abbasi.
By any measure, 'aam zameen:common ground', is a remarkable document of the life-changing musical journey Ahluwalia has travelled in the last few years.
