'Beautiful beyond words' AMAZON.COM.'A masterclass in finess' THE IRISH TIMES
The above words were used to describe “Across the Black River, the first duo recording by world renowned Irish Fiddler Kevin Burke and the wonderful composer, arranger and musician, Cal Scott. Kevin Burke (of the Bothy Band, Patrick Street and The Celtic Fiddle Festival) and Cal Scott have got together again to record a follow-up to that highly acclaimed first release. The new CD is entitled “SUITE and features guest appearances from Beoga, currently one of Ireland’s hottest bands, from double bassist Dave Captein who has played with such luminaries as Mose Allison, Wynton Marsalis and Larry Coryell and also from some of the Northwest’s finest classical musicians.
The music heard on “SUITE is a combination of traditional, contemporary and self-penned pieces. The CD also highlights a beautiful new work called “The Irish Session Suite. This new work contains 10 traditional tunes arranged in Four Movements for string quartet. Kevin’s fiddle leads the classical players through Cal Scott’s masterful score producing an absorbing blend of Traditional and Classical string playing.
