Description
"PIECES OF EIGHT" was a British musical comedy revue starring KENNETH WILLIAMS and Fenella Fielding, with sketches written by Peter Cook and music by Laurie Johnson, which premiered at Soho's Apollo Theatre in September 1959.
Such was its success that Decca Records rush released a cast recording of the production in early 1960.
Its sequel, "ONE OVER THE EIGHT", opened the Duke Of York's Theatre in April, 1961, once again starring Kenneth Williams, also including Sheila Hancock, Lance Percival, Lynda Baron, John Howard and Robin Hawdon, with musical support from the Frank Horrox Sextet.
The cast recording LP was issued by Decca Records in the Summer of 1961.
This compilation features eleven extracts from "Pieces Of Eight", and seventeen from "One Over The Eight".
It was the success of these two revues, backed up by his appearances on BBC radio, that established Williams as a major comedy star.
