  • Description

After the success of the critically acclaimed album "Turn Every Stone" (2023), Kenneth Lien and Center of the Universe are back with a new album that continues their unique project: to create electronic folk music with deep roots in Norwegian tradition.

On this album, the duo takes a significant step forward after having performed their characteristic music on stages across the country. The result is a record that makes it sound like Norwegian folk music has always been electronic - and perhaps it could have been? The duo's new album combines traditional melodies and dance rhythms from gangar, springar and halling with traditional instruments like the mouth harp and hardingfele to echoes from house and techno such as the TB-303 and Roland 909. It is music that can not only be listened to but also danced to - and that seeks to extend the tradition rather than break with it. This is not an attempt at a nostalgic journey but a living experiment in how electronic production can help to enhance and revitalize Norwegian folk music.

Kenneth Lien is a multi-instrumentalist with roots in black metal and improvised rock. He plays a variety of folk instruments such as the fiddle, hardingfele, willow flute, and not least, the mouth harp. He is best known from the trio AEvestaden but has also made a name for himself on the competition scene with several mouth harp victories.

Jorgen Skjulstad is a musician and DJ who is also known as Center of the Universe or DJ Sisyphus. Jorgen has released about 20 albums under his own name and contributed to perhaps a few hundred as remixer and producer.

This album is both an introduction an entry point for new listeners and a deep dive for those who already love Norwegian folk music - in a completely unique form.
