Description
** WORLD PREMEIRE RECORDING **
Pieter Hellendaal was one of the star violinists who - like Geminiani and Veracini - appeared as a soloist during the intermissions of Handel's operas in London.
BBC Radio 3's Record Review says of this recording: ""Playing and ornamentation of this quality means that they have the best possible advocacy."
"Pramsohler on a 1713 Rogeri is a treat, bringing all manor of colours and shadings and delicious curves to the violin's often highly virtuoso lines......." Gramophone Editor's Choice June 2020.
Exploring Hellendaal's sonata manuscript in Cambridge's Fitzwilliam Museum, Johannes Pramsohler brings to light a composer firmly rooted in the Corellian tradition, yet reminiscent of his teacher Tartini in his melodic invention and
of Locatelli in his stunningly virtuosic cadenzas.
Johannes Pramsohler has been highly praised for his research and recordings of previously unknown works.
"The clean, lyrical virtuosity from Johannes Pramsohler is of
the kind that begs you to simply sit back and soak it all up."
– Gramophone
"Pramsohler's assured technique and musicianship
are impressive"
– The Strad
"A revelation"
– The Times
