Description
'The Vienna Chamber Diaries' is an album by one of Austria's most prolific and versatile young composers, Johannes Berauer. He composed and arranged all nine tracks, which are performed by leading jazz musicians such as pianist Gwilym Simcock, guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel and reedsman Klaus Gesing.
The project was realised with the support of Wolfgang Muthspiel who appears as a soloist and whose label it appears on. He also helped to put together the remarkable line-up that features jazz stars Gwilym Simcock and Klaus Gesing, alongside distinguished classical musicians such as Florian Eggner (member of the renowned Eggner Trio) and Paul Kaiser (solo oboist with the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra).
Successful in both the classical and jazz worlds, Berauer makes a logical step by fusing his two musical souls into one project. This album masterfully blends subtle chamber music, high-energy improvisation, groove and intricate polyphonic writing. Two different worlds of music filtered through Berauer's composition, and merged into a beautiful whole as if they had always belonged together.
Personnel: Klaus Gesing (soprano saxophone, bass clarinet), Thomas Frey (flutes), Paul Kaiser (oboe), Wolfgang Muthspiel (guitar), Gwilym Simcock (piano), Johannes Dickbauer (violin), Florian Eggner, Matthias Bartolomey (cello), Christian Bakanic (accordion)
