Johan Jansen (JJ Steel) is one of the foremost pedal steel guitar players in Holland… sorry, forget about that: in Europe. Apart from playing in his regular bands like COD (with long time lead singer Ilse DeLange), Any Vegetable and The Secret Combination he has also toured all major Dutch theatres playing for The American Country Legends.
Many international artists have asked him to join them on European tours or to play on their albums. Johan has graced shows and recordings of Heather Myles, Derek Trucks, Sonny Landreth, Buddy Cage, South Mountain, Steve Piticco, Bruce Bouton, Ray Campi, Eddy Bond, Norrin Rad, Lucille Starr and Dale Watson among others with his distinctive pedal steel sound.
Apart from his day time job as a (pedal steel) guitar teacher Johan also publishes books, develops teaching methods and organizes pedal steel events and is often invited to give master classes across Europe. Johan is known as a tireless promoter for his beloved instrument, especially if he can showcase that the rich colours of the steel strings should be heard well beyond country music.
