Jens Duppe's music is both raw and elegant, this is an art, and is due to the fact that the Cologne-based drummer is refreshingly unconcerned about belonging to a particular stylistic school. Sometimes the pieces call for a sound that rocks more and generates powerful. Or they focus on the jazzy, modern elements that his fellow musicians master with subtle mastery. On the other hand, it may call for more experimental elements, with free-flowing passages or communicatively appealing parts. For Jens Duppe, these are primarily facets of a larger context. For him, music is an ensemble of comprehensively interlocking lines of energy. Rhythm flows, sound streams, and his quartet with guest is the medium for appropriately implementing this vision - which is more of an attitude than just an idea.
