Description
Described as 'boldly imaginative' [The Times] and 'a talent to watch' [New York Times], Gavin Higgins is one of the most exciting and gifted compositional talents of his generation. Higgins was born in Gloucestershire (1983) and studied french horn and composition at Chetham's School of Music, The Royal Northern College of Music, and the Royal College of Music. When I first moved to Manchester at the age of sixteen I lived directly beside the large carpark where the Urbis Centre currently stands. For the duration of my time there however this area was a building site and so, for two years, the sounds of hammering metal and the rhythms of machinery dominated my world. Having recently arrived in Manchester from a very quiet rural area this soundtrack was completely new to me and, as a response, I wrote this virtuosic, but playful, percussion solo. 'Oh, the noise! Oh, the Noise! Noise! Noise! Noise! That's one thing he hated! The NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!' - How the Grinch Stole Christmas - Dr. Seuss. - Gavin Higgins
