Description
Two Voices is the debut album from Fair Oriana. It is an intimate and unique collection of chamber music that showcases their "bright, fresh voices", as well as their distinctive programming. Designed to draw the listener into their ethereal soundworld, Two Voices features beguiling music of the English language, mainly from the Renaissance and Baroque eras, with occasional dashes of medieval, folk and contemporary styles, including three new commissions. At its core (and the inspiration for its title) are Thomas Morley's delicate Twelve Canzonets to Two Voices (1595) which weave throughout, interspersed with other, complimentary repertoire that gives a taste of the diversity and subtle theatre of their concert programmes. Included in the album booklet are four original flower paintings by artist Gillian Barrett, inspired by the album. Fair Oriana are a soprano duo known for the purity and blend of their voices. They specialise in singing historical repertoire, and perform chamber concerts with a hint of theatre. Both members of Dame Emma Kirkby's ensemble Dowland Works, Sopranos Angela Hicks and Penelope Appleyard joined forces in 2019 to form Fair Oriana, a duo that mixes their passion for early music with contemporary influences and, at times, a dash of folk, medieval and jazz. The two singers have a natural rapport on stage, a love of musical creativity and ornamentation, and a mutual penchant for doing things a bit differently!
