Description
A rising star on the German jazz scene, drummer Eva Klesse is making international waves with her acoustic quartet of young and vibrant players. This is her recording debut as leader and brings together a programme of her original compositions alongside those of her pianist Philip Frischkorn and bass player Robert Lucaciu.
The music is both melancholic and edgy in part, highly percussive and with a cohesive group sound. These are serious musicians who clearly adore the jazz medium, particularly improvisation as a vehicle for listening and sonic exploration, and who play without ego.
On the track Orphelia, one critic wrote "the group's attention to balance and nuance with a piano-bass dynamic is reminiscent of that between Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen and his many pianists. The result is one of simmering beauty".
Eve Klesse is also a member of jazz-rock trio No Kissing with bassist Alma Neumann and guitarist Werner Neumann.
