Description
Zimbabwean born, Londoner ESKA is female solo artist who is a creative force to reckoned with; imagine the psyche soul of Minnie Riperton, unexpected, whimsical melodic twists of Kate Bush and ornate detail of folk legends Pentangle arranged in an intoxicating meld for the post-digital age, and you're only getting close. ESKA has been compared to Joni Mitchell by the music press, but her sound is a unique and complex tapestry of folk, soul, and rock n ' roll that has to be heard to be believed.
When ESKA's self-titled debut album was released in the UK, April 2015 on Naim Edge Records, the BBC Radio 6 Music tastemaker Gilles Peterson proclaimed ESKA "the finest UK singer", The Guardian dubbed her "enchanting… inventive" and The Independent called her "one of the most idiosyncratic and original talents". ESKA's eponymous debut was subsequently nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in the UK; one of 12 Albums of the Year by a panel of some of the industry's most respected music critics. ESKA has wowed crowds everywhere from Glastonbury Festival to London's Queen Elizabeth Hall. ESKA's list of collaborations over the course of her career is as bravely diverse as her music itself; Grace Jones, Zero 7, James Lavelle's UNKLE, Wiley, A$AP Rocky and even designer Rick Owens at Paris Fashion Week.
